In March 2018, the world-famous opera house Glyndebourne will stage its first ever international opera singing competition – The Glyndebourne Opera Cup – a search to discover the next generation of opera stars, and Sky Arts will be there every step of the way.
Together with Sky Arts, Classic FM is offering you the chance to win an incredible break for two to Glyndebourne in Lewes, East Sussex with travel and accommodation, a tour, dinner, £250 spending money and tickets to a Glyndebourne festival performance this summer *.

Gemma is a graduate of the Royal College of Music International Opera School, The Georg Solti Accademia and The Verbier Festival Academy. This season she has worked with English National Opera and she's looking forward to an oratorio tour of Switzerland, concert dates throughout the UK and playing Maria in Bernstein's West Side Story.

Tenor Charles Sy loved singing as a child but thought he'd grow up to be a doctor – until his Mum told him to follow his dream to perform. He is currently training at the Julliard School in New York, and loves drawing in his spare time.

Carl is the son of musicians and made his debut in the womb when his mother performed in Don Giovanni whilst pregnant! In 2016 he joined the soloists ensemble of the Konzert Theater Bern in Switzerland, where he has performed in the roles of Don Giovanni, Papageno and Figaro in Mozart operas.

Coming from a musical family – her father is a composer - Aurora started playing the cello when she was 5 though it wasn't until she was 14 that she took to opera singing. This will be her first visit to the UK.

Alexandra performs yearly in Russian art song concerts and has been awarded a string of prizes at prestigious singing competitions across Europe and America. She is currently a fourth year Resident Artist at the Academy of Vocal Arts (AVA) in Philadelphia.

Mirjam started singing in the Estonian Television Youth Choir when she was 7 and she continued to be the choir soloist for 15 years. Mirjam is generously supported by the Help Musicians Fund, Estonian Students Fund in USA and the Guildhall School Trust.

A keen clarinettist, Jake recently made his international concert singing debut in Versailles where he performed as soloist in Monteverdi's Vespers. He was part of the 2016 Glyndebourne Festival Chorus and will be joining it again this year as a Jerwood Young Artist.

Jacquelyn switched from a career in academia to a career on the stage and is currently a Young Artist at the Royal Opera House. She always goes for a run before anything important that she has to sing – it helps calm her nerves – and takes part in running races.

Emily is the youngest in the competition and currently in her 4th and final year at the Curtis Institute of Music. She describes herself as a cat lover and chocoholic, and will be joining the 2018-19 ensemble of the Opera Centre at Lyric of Chicago.

When aged just 10, Eleonore wrote a letter to the director of the Opera Comique in Paris, saying how much she loved his interpretation of a piece. He arranged a meeting between them the following year and a career in opera has followed.

As a young girl, Elbenita was forced to flee her home in war-torn Kosovo with her family, and live as a refugee in Albania. She started singing to bring her family together and fell in love with opera after watching clips of Maria Callas on YouTube.
